Principles, Practices, and Policies for Effective Online Teaching – J. Julius – Online Workshop
Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2:30 pm to 3:50 pm via CCC Confer Online
Credit Hours: 1.5
The online environment has both advantages and challenges for teaching and learning compared to a traditional classroom. This online workshop will briefly provide background on regulatory requirements that MiraCosta’s distance education “policy” (AP 4105) addresses. More importantly, the workshop will explore research-based pedagogical principles that speak to key areas highlighted by AP 4105 – regular effective contact, academic integrity, monitoring student progress, frequent and timely feedback, and student authentication. Participants will be able to share their own practical advice and ideas on how their classes fulfill these expectations. Participants will also explore the new Online Education Initiative course design rubric and discuss how it might help or hinder effective and innovative online teaching.
